link building techniques for 2021 : As Google drives 57.8% of all referral traffic on the internet, SEO is a powerful marketing technique for any business.

It’s true that some successful businesses ignore SEO. I receive snail mail from some successful businesses, hoping for a $10,000 loan on a whim. This does not mean you should follow their example.

The use of SEO isn’t essential for success, but it certainly helps. Before you decide whether SEO is worth your time, read about the ROI of SEO first.

How should your business begin implementing SEO?

There is no one-size-fits-all solution for SEO, but building high-quality backlinks and writing informative content are a great place to begin.

You can find a full breakdown of how to write informative content here.

Today, we’ll discuss how to build quality links.

Businesses can get huge results from full-scale link building campaigns, but what about the little guys who can’t afford these services? Link building is one of the three most influential ranking factors, so we cannot simply ignore it.

It is true that link building can be very time-consuming, but there are also dozens of small-scale options that can drive excellent results for smaller brands.

We have tested dozens of different link building strategies over the past few years. To build links from quality sites, we’re sharing our five favorite simple link building techniques in this article.

Each one of these strategies will be discussed one-by-one, including how to start incorporating them into your digital marketing strategy.

We will not discuss time-intensive approaches to building links like broken link building. Furthermore, we won’t discuss black-hat link building tactics such as getting links from private blog networks (PBNs), link exchanges, and buying spammy, low-quality backlinks.

If you’re anything like me, you played a lot of sports as a child.
If you’re anything like me, you didn’t have any athletic ability when you were growing up.
Due to the talent of the rest of your team, you won the championship every few years.

In a similar way, image credit link building allows you to ride on the coattails of successful websites to gain some of their benefits.

Creating image credit links involves finding high-quality articles in your industry that lack images. Once you have found these articles, create a new visual and send it to the author. An infographic, illustration, or stock image could be used with customized styling.

These authors may add your visual and provide a link back to your website below their new image if the design is good.

Even though I am artistically inept, this strategy helped me to get backlinks from high-authority sites like Scoop.it. I suggest using tools such as Canva or Snappa to simplify the design process for those who are equally inept designers.

2. Providing Expert Quotes

An article in the New York Times is worth more than a hundred backlinks from your own blog, as I always say.

In that case, how would you get a backlink from the New York Times?

Smaller brands may not be featured in a major publication as often as Amazon, but they do get casually featured every time they lift a finger.

Thanks to journalists, new content is constantly being published. Collecting expert feedback is one of the biggest bottlenecks in this process.

For expert quotes, journalists are increasingly turning to online tools like Help a Reporter Out. When journalists choose to use you as a source, they almost always link back to your website. When submitting to the larger publications’ journalists, take the time to craft detailed responses whenever possible.

In short, if you want to be featured in major publications like Forbes and Entrepreneur, sign up for HARO.

3. Syndication of content

You can increase content visibility and gain additional backlinks by syndicating your newly published articles to other sources.

Our favorite method of building backlinks and visibility after publishing an article is syndicating it across many different platforms. LinkedIn, Medium, and Business2Community are some of our favorites for content syndication.

However, syndicating content is not without risks. You are at risk of preventing the article from appearing in search results due to the syndicated post.

Here are the reasons why:

In the event Google discovers duplicate content, it will attempt to identify the original source. As a result, it decides to only show search results from the “original source”.

For search engines, one of the easiest ways to identify the “original source” is by looking through their index and seeing which source was indexed first.

If you publish your article on both sources simultaneously, a site like LinkedIn is much more likely to be viewed as the original source than your website, as high authority sites are crawled more frequently than low authority sites.

4. Ask for sponsorships.

Community sponsorships can be an effective brand awareness technique that also builds backlinks for local businesses. Sponsoring a group on Meetup.com is one of our favorite examples.

Meetup.com’s event organizers pay $30/month to keep their groups running. If your business is the primary sponsor for your Meetup group, you will get free advertising. This is a dofollow backlink from a 316th most reputable website (according to Ahrefs) with a domain rating of 91 out of 100.
5. Writing guest blogs

By guest blogging, you can establish thought leadership and gain links from high authority websites.

To write for top publications, follow these steps:

Write in-depth articles on topics you feel comfortable covering
for 2-3 websites whose readers might be interested in the topics you propose
Offer to write for these sites in personalized messages pitching your topic ideas

link building techniques for 2021 : The majority of sites that appear on Google for this search parameter have previously hosted guest articles about the searched topic. Future guest articles will be much more likely to appear on these sites.

The “Past week” option, for example, only displays results that have been published during the past week.
Pro tip #2: extract every URL from search results into a .csv file instead of manually pasting them into Excel.

Find the email address of each site’s editor (or webmaster, if no other address is available) using a tool like Hunter. Highlight your experience in the industry and recommend a few blog topics.

Watch the new links pour in as you write quality content for the bloggers who respond.

Free bonus: Unlinked mentions of your brand.

Okay, I lied.

We couldn’t end this post without mentioning unlinked brand mentions – a favorite link building strategy for larger brands. Unlinked brand mentions, as the name implies, are articles, news stories, etc. that mention your brand without linking back to your website.

You can reach out to these companies and ask them to link back to your website if you know how to monitor this. Our company usually frames this request as a way to let their readers know more about us.

Several tools are available to monitor this, but our favorite (free) tool is Google Alerts.

If you sign up for Google Alerts, an email will be sent to your inbox whenever Google discovers an article containing a specific phrase (i.e., your brand name).

Any of these articles can be opened and you can see if they link back to your website. Send a quick email asking for the link if the journalist does not already have it.

Additional Links Building Techniques

Pass link juice across your entire website by adding internal links.
Share your content on social media to gain visibility. Links to these pages may be shared by other websites.
Add relevant external links to your articles (this will also help to establish your content as a legitimate source of information in the eyes of your customers and search engines).

Make contact with people who regularly create expert roundups in your field – offer to contribute to their next roundup.
If you work with local businesses or companies, offer to write testimonials for them. Most will feature your testimonial with a link back to your site on their homepage.
Contribute to other blogs by leaving comments. Commenting on blogs usually results in nofollow links. Your website authority will be minimally affected by this. However, if the comment provides value to the reader, it may drive them back to your site.

The goal of link building is to drive traffic to your company’s website, and although the results of large-scale campaigns can be significant, those with a tight budget can start with these six link building methods.
